Scouting is a non political, educational Movement for young people, open to all who are prepared to accept and live the Scout Promise and Law. It is the largest youth movement in the world with an estimated 60 million members in over 176 countries. The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and cultural potential as individuals, as citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

We do a wide range of activities throughout the year, from camping, hiking and outdoor adventures to cooking, games, pioneering and learning practical life skills. We also take part in trips, challenges and activities that encourage teamwork, confidence and independence

Scouting Ireland is one of Ireland’s largest youth organisations, supporting young people to develop life skills, confidence and independence through adventure, learning and teamwork.
Scouting Ireland provides a youth-led programme where young people learn by doing, take part in outdoor activities and challenges, work together in small teams and become more involved in their local communities.
There are five sections within Scouting Ireland: Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers, providing opportunities for young people from ages 6 to 25.
At Sallins Scout Group, we are proud to be part of the wider Scouting Ireland family, giving young people in our local community the opportunity to learn new skills, make friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.

The Aim of Scouting Ireland is to support young people in their personal development by providing opportunities to learn, explore, challenge themselves and develop as individuals. Scouting encourages young people to become confident, responsible and active members of their communities. They do this through five different areas of a youth members development. They aee social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual.

Scouting Ireland is divided into different sections based on age. These are Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers.

Each section has activities and challenges appropriate to the age and development of its members

The ranks in Ireland consist of the following

Beavers for 6-8 years old,

Cub scouts for 9-11 years old,

Scouts for 12-15 years old,

Venture Scouts for 15 -17 years old

Rover Scouts for 18-25 years old

Each Group, and Section, will pick and choose which skills they are learning depending on equipment, costs, Adult Scouter skills, interests of the Youth Members etc. There are nine Adventure Skills – Camping, Backwoods, Pioneering, Emergencies, Hill walking, Air Activities, Paddling, Rowing, and Sailing.

Along the way they will also be exposed to teamwork, leadership, public speaking, planning, budgeting, packing, and many other confidence boosting skills without even noticing it.

Places in our sections are limited and there may be a waiting list. We mainly welcome new members in September when places become available as young people move between sections. We recommend registering your interest as early as possible.

Scouting is open to everyone. Come and talk to us or get in touch to discuss how we can best accommodate your child. Many of our Scouters are trained first-aiders and/or parents themselves, and will be happy to help and support you.
You could also consider becoming a leader yourself, allowing you to be there to support your child while helping other young people enjoy Scouting too.
